Sri Lanka provides aid to Vanuatu cyclone victims

As a token of solidarity with the people of Vanuatu, the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka has sanctioned a cash contribution of USD 50,000 on behalf of the Government and people of Sri Lanka to the Government and people of the Republic of Vanuatu, for victims of Cyclone Pam that ravaged the Republic of Vanuatu last month.

The Acting High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Australia, Mr. P. Selvaraj called on Vanuatu High Commissioner Kalfau Kaloris, at the Vanuatu mission in Canberra on 17th April 2014 to hand over the bank cheque amounting to Fifty Thousand US Dollars. The High Commissioner of Vanuatu conveyed his profound gratitude for the donation and appreciated the contribution of the Government of Sri Lanka to support the people of Vanuatu at their time of need and assured that the invaluable donation would be utilized for immediate needs for shelter and sanitation.

The High Commissioner conveyed his best wishes to the Government and the people of Sri Lanka and appreciated the valuable and strong friendship that exist between the two countries and looked forward to further it being enhanced further.
