New Year Message From High Commissioner of Sri Lanka In Australia, Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe

Ayubowan, Wannakam, Assalamalikum!

On behalf of the staff members of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra as well as on my own behalf and my family, I am pleased to extend my best wishes to His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, members of the first family, the Government of Sri Lanka, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Sydney, all Honorary Consuls for Sri Lanka in Australia and other accredited countries, Sri Lankan community in Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu and citizens of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu a peaceful, secure, prosperous , healthy and a Happy New Year.

The New Year is an opportunity to make new beginnings and to dedicate ourselves to the consolidation of the gains of the past and to work for individual and collective growth as well as for the development of our motherland. Under the leadership of His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka continues to enjoy lasting peace. Our economy has improved and growing stronger. The Government has taken appropriate action to uplift the quality of lives of the people. Nation building process, rehabilitation, re-construction, re-integration, resettlement, reconciliation processes, infrastructure constructions and other areas of livelihood are progressing. The unprecedented development drive in the fields of trade, investment and tourism are continuing.

Therefore, I appeal in earnest, to all Sri Lankans and Sri Lankan Australians irrespective of your differences, ideologies, ethnicities, races, religions and languages to join hands and to contribute your invaluable knowledge and thoughts to make Sri Lanka a prosperous nation. With your dedication, commitment, loyalty and untiring efforts our motherland will achieve national economic goals reaping the benefits of peaceful atmosphere in Sri Lanka.

I wish you and your families all the best and offer you my most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for your support that you continues to extended in numerous ways for the Government of Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Community and the Sri Lankan High Commission. May the 2013 bring prosperity, health and happiness for all Sri Lankans, both at home and here in Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.
