High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra celebrated Christmas with the participation of Sri Lankan community at the High Commission premises on 29 November 2019, in keeping with the tradition of commemorating the important festivals of all religions practiced in Sri Lanka. The Rev. Father Steve Nation led Christmas prayers in English and highlighted the meaning of Christmas, coexistence with other faiths and how its empathetic towards other religions. Rev. Father Ruwan Pradeep delivered the Christmas message trilingually in Sinhala, Tamil and English highlighting the significance of celebration of Christmas by communities around the world. Read More »

Mahinda Rajapaksa sworn in as new Prime Minister

Former President and the leader of Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in as new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (21).
The swearing in ceremony was attended by former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Ministers and several other dignitaries.

The winner of the 2019 Presidential Election, SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa sworn in as the 7th Executive President of Sri Lanka today (November 18) in Anuradhapura. He took oaths before Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
