Commonwealth Team wins Anton Muttukumaru Trophy 2021

The annual cricket match for Major General Anton Muttukumaru Trophy between the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the High Commissions of Commonwealth countries based in Canberra teams was played at the Forestry Oval, Yarralumla on 20th March 2021.
The Commonwealth team comprising players from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the United Kingdom won the trophy. DFAT won the toss and sent the Commonwealth team to bat . Read More »

High Commission of Sri Lanka in Canberra celebrates the 73 rd Anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The 73rd anniversary of Sri Lanka’s National Independence was celebrated in the Sri Lanka High Commission premises in Canberra, with a formal flag hoisting ceremony in the early morning of 4th February 2021.
The event was held outdoors following the COVID-19 health regulations applicable to outdoor events. Around 150 participants representing a wide cross section of the Sri Lankan community attended this ceremony. Read More »

Commencement of Work in the Year 2021 at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra

The staff of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra commenced work on the first day of the year with a special programme held in the morning of Friday, 01 January 2021 at its premises.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the national flag by the Actg. High Commissioner followed by the singing of the national anthem by members of the staff. Government to re-introduce conditional repatriation in the wake of new strain of Corona virus

In the wake of the discovery of a fast spreading new strain of Coronavirus in certain countries, the Government of Sri Lanka has decided to continue with the existing procedure of obtaining prior approval from the Foreign Ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority for all inbound travellers to Sri Lanka.

A virtual eco-tourism promotional event on Sri Lanka titled ‘Breathtaking Birds of the Sri Lankan Rainforest’ was held in Canberra on 12 November 2020. This interactive event, highlighting the bird diversity in Sinharaja forest of Sri Lanka was jointly organised by a specialised ecotourism facilitation company -Aarunya Vacations Ltd along with Savannah Guides Ltd, a leading tour guide professional network in Australia at the invitation of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra. The objective of the event was to keep the market presence in Australia for Sri Lanka tourism during the Covid-19 travel restrictions. Read More »
