Certification, Authentication and Attestation of Documents
Where to apply:
Sri Lankan nationals residing in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Samoa can forward their applications with required documents to the Sri Lanka High Commission and the Consulate General Offices as indicated below;

Applicable Fees for a document attestation
Payments have to be made in cash or online transfer. Applicants should have clear instructions from their lawyers in Sri Lanka on number of copies required as each document is charged separately.

Postage within Australia A$ 10.00 outside Australia-A$ 40.00. If required, courier services should be arranged by the applicant.

Please make all payments payable to the ‘Sri Lanka High Commission’. Payments can be made by Money order. If applying in person at the High Commission, payment can only be made in cash for which an official receipt will be issued. Money will not be refunded after issuance of the receipt.

Attestation of Power of Attorney, Affidavit, and Documents
Sri Lankan citizens and Dual Citizenship holders
Sri Lankans with valid Sri Lankan Passports and visas, and Sri Lankan Dual Citizenship holders, are eligible to sign a Power of Attorney/Affidavit/Documents, in front of a Consular Officer in the Sri Lanka High Commission. Please make an appointment with the Consular Section in advance.
Required Documents :
1 Original Power of Attorney/Affidavit prepared in legal format with two photo copies.
2. Original Passport/National Identity Card/ original Dual Citizenship Certificate with 2 copies.
3. Current Visa status
4. Two witnesses
5. Letter of request with contact details [Tel No. / Email address, Postal address etc.]
6. Fee AUD 100.00.per document. Payment has to be made in cash. [Applicants should have clear instructions from their lawyers in Sri Lanka on the number of copies required as each document is charged separately.]
Non Sri Lankans
Applicants who are non-Sri Lankans have to sign their documents in front of their respective Foreign Ministry/Department; before submitting documents to this High Commission for Attestation purposes.
Submitting Documents for Power of Attorney, Affidavit and Documents Attestation via Post
If you choose to submit your documents for Power of Attorney (POA) attestation by post, please ensure the inclusion of the following:
- A formal request letter addressed to the High Commission with complete contact details.
- Certified copies of your Sri Lankan passport and current visa. Australian passport holders must include a copy of their Australian passport and have the POA authenticated by the Australian Passport Office, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), If you hold an NZ passport, your NZ passport copy and the POA must be authenticated by the Internal Affairs, NZ. Dual citizens should provide certified copies of their Dual Citizenship certificate along with their current Sri Lankan or foreign passport.
- The Power of Attorney document, signed by you. If you are not an Australian citizen, your signature must be certified by a Justice of the Peace.
- If your POA requires two witness signatures, it must be signed in the presence of witnesses before a Justice of the Peace.
Upon receiving your documents, we will promptly provide you with the fee details and bank information for online payment.
Attestation, Legalisation & Certification of Documents issued by Sri Lankan Government
Applicants are required to submit original documents authenticated by Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka with two photo copies. The documents not authenticated by the Consular Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka will not be accepted for above purposes.
Translation of Documents
The Certificates issued in Sri Lanka will be translated from Sinhala /Tamil to English or vice versa, on a request made by the applicant. The Original Certificate with two photocopies, original Passport with a copy and a letter of request mentioning the purpose, will be needed. Note: Applicant must enquire the possibility and possible time frame in advance, before sending the documents for translations.
Certification of Life Certificates of Sri Lankan Pensioners.
Attestation or certification of signature of applicants on pension documents/ Life Certificates or counter-signing thereon; attestation of signature on other Sri Lankan official forms or counter-signing of such signature may be exempted from payment at the discretion of the Head of Mission.
Request for extension of abroad Leave
Sri Lankan Government Officers, submitting requests for extension of overseas leave, can be forward to respective authorities in Sri Lanka through the High Commission. They have to forward such requests with a Covering letter addressed to Sri Lanka High Commission/respective Head of Department, along with a copy of Passport and Visa status.
A Letter of Authentication of Sri Lankan Driving Licence
A letter of authentication of Sri Lankan Driving Licence will be issued after verification of the licence from the Motor Commissioner, Department of Motor Commission, Sri Lanka.
Supporting Documents for Verification of Name in the Driver’s License
- A request letter addressed to the Commissioner General, Department of Motor Traffic, Sri Lanka, including your complete contact details.
- Copies of both sides of your current Driver’s License.
- Certified copies of your Sri Lankan Passport (Bio Data page and Observation page).
- A copy of your valid Visa.
- A certified copy of your Dual Citizenship Certificate (if applicable).
Special Note :
- Applicant must declare his/her nationality status when seeking an appointment, for advice on the proper procedure to be followed. The Consular Officer/Receptionist will advise the applicant accordingly
- Incomplete applications and missing documents may result in delays.
- Translations will not be accepted as originals
- All photocopies must be on A4 size paper.
- Sri Lanka High Commission will not take any responsibility for documents lost or delayed in the post. If required, courier services should be arranged by the applicant
- Money will not be refunded after issuance of a receipt.
- Personal and company cheques are not acceptable.
